Bytedance has unveiled its latest AI model series, Seed2.0, significantly ramping up the competitive pressure on Western AI models by offering similar capabilities at substantially lower costs. This new release includes three different model sizes—Pro, Lite, and Mini—as well as a specialized model for coding tasks.
One of the standout features of the Seed2.0 series is its enhanced multimodal processing ability, which has been refined to better comprehend documents, tables, graphics, and videos. In performance tests, the Seed2.0 Pro model has excelled, achieving leading scores in various benchmarks related to visual math, logic, and perception. It outperformed well-known Western models such as GPT-5.2, Claude Opus 4.5, and Gemini 3 Pro in several key areas.
The Seed2.0 Pro's achievements extend beyond these benchmarks to international competitions. It attained gold medal-level scores in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the Chinese Mathematical Olympiad (CMO), and the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). Impressively, it claimed gold in all five ICPC contests it participated in, surpassing both Gemini 3 Pro and GPT-5.2. However, like its peers, it stumbled on problem 6 at the IMO.
Despite its successes, the Seed2.0 Pro does have some limitations. It trails behind Claude in code generation and falls short of Gemini in areas requiring extensive knowledge. Additionally, it is less effective than its Western competitors at minimizing hallucinations, according to Bytedance's evaluations.
Pricing for Seed2.0 models significantly undercuts that of Western counterparts, with the Seed2.0 Pro API priced at approximately $0.47 per million input tokens and $2.37 per million output tokens. In contrast, Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.5 starts at $5.00 per million input tokens and $25.00 per million output tokens. The cost for other models like GPT-5.2 and Gemini 3 Pro is also notably higher.
The Seed2.0 Pro model is accessible through Doubao, a popular Chinese chat application, while the dedicated code model is available via the TRAE developer tool. All variants of Seed2.0 operate on Bytedance's Volcano Engine cloud platform.
