Meta Allocates $65 Million to Support AI-Advocating Politicians in State Elections

Meta is channeling $65 million to sway state elections throughout the United States, according to a report by the New York Times. This marks the largest political funding effort by the company to date, aimed at endorsing candidates who are supportive of artificial intelligence initiatives.

To execute this strategy, Meta has established four Super Political Action Committees (PACs). Two of these are newly created: "Forge the Future Project," which focuses on backing Republican candidates, and "Making Our Tomorrow," which targets Democratic candidates. These new entities join two existing Super PACs to maximize Meta's influence.

The initiative kicks off this week in Texas and Illinois. In Texas, where Meta is in the process of constructing three AI data centers, the funds are directed toward strengthening Republican candidates' campaigns. Meanwhile, in Illinois, the financial support is distributed among at least four races for legislative seats.

This strategic investment seems to stem from Meta's apprehensions regarding varying state-level artificial intelligence regulations. Given the relatively low cost of influencing state elections, the $65 million investment could significantly impact the outcomes, potentially shaping regulatory landscapes in favor of AI advancements.
